Resource Types define the different kinds of content in your library. By default, your site comes with Sermons and News, but you can create custom types.
Types are a genre, not a format
Resource Types describe what kind of thing the content is — Sermons, Articles, Stories, Podcast Episodes, Studies, Books, Conference Messages, Curriculum. A good type name works naturally in both singular and plural forms.
Don't create types based on media format. Audio sermons, video sermons, and text sermons are all sermons — one type, with different media attached to each resource. Splitting them creates artificial silos that fragment the library and confuse visitors searching for "that sermon on grace."
Good examples:
- Sermons, Podcast Episodes, Articles, Stories, Studies, Books, Conference Messages
Avoid (these are media formats masquerading as types):
- Audio, Video, PDFs, Live Streams
What resource types control
- Each type gets its own section in the resource library
- Types determine which filters and views are available
- Podcast-enabled types generate an RSS feed for Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc.
Podcast settings
If a resource type is set up as a podcast, it will have additional fields for your podcast title, author, description, and cover art. These are used to generate the RSS feed that podcast apps read.
Tip: You can find your podcast RSS feed URL at /resources/types/[type-slug]/feed on your site. Use this URL when submitting to Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
